LO1: M1 Understand the purpose and use a personal media profile

This assignment will outline the advantages and disadvantages of different mediums and digital platforms that can be used to show work experience and education.

Websites are used to promote a user’s work because it makes the user accessible for multiple different potential employers at once. These are used to show the users skills of using different media platforms and how it can be useful. Website CVS can easily express the content on the CV for anyone that has access to the internet, these can easily provide the person portfolio to the potential employer in a more sustainable manner.

Advantages:

Quick and free – Social pages are simple to set up and they are mostly free.

Low-commitment – If your social profile is no longer doing the job, you can easily delete your page or switch to another platform. Or just do not pay as much attention to it.

Blog: a blog is used to promote a person to a potential employer like a website does for it is accessible to anyone that has access to the internet, these are useful for employers because they are portable and can be accessed anywhere meaning they are convenient for the potential employer for they can share the blog to others to get more opinions on the person, an example of a blog that could be used is WordPress.

Advantages:

accessible to multiple people at once, portable, easy to make changes to.

Disadvantages:

not useful if the potential employer has not got access to the internet, certain employers do not find blogs professional.

Digital / physical cv: This type of personal profile is used to express the persons skills, life experience and a summary of what they are capable off and how they can be appropriate for the job role for which they are applying. This type of profile is discussed during the further interview that is provided by the employer to communicate the availability and to see if the person is appraise and suitable for the role.

Advantages:

sustainable and will not get lost for there are online documents kept, easy to edit online, portable, easy to understand, physical copies can be given to potential employers.

Disadvantages:

physical copies can be damaged or lost, easy to come across as arrogant to the employer.

Physical portfolio: These documents are used to show physical artwork that the person has created throughout their lifetime that will help them be more suitable for the role or position they are applying for. Portfolios can express the type of person someone is meaning the employer can gather information on the person through their work instead of through their written work, these thoughts would be discussed during a further interview provided.

Advantages:

Gives freedom to impress employer from best work, shows skills, shows how your work develops from the original plan, does not require the use of the internet.

Disadvantages:

Can become time consuming to make and examine, expensive, damage can be made to the artwork that cannot be recovered or fixed.



 


Show reel: Show reels are mainly used by people that are wanting to apply for jobs that are relevant to filming or camera work, this is because a persona can show the employer the different types of camera angles and the skills the person has with the equipment or how the present themselves in the ion industry. This is a relevant and suitable form of media profile for people that are trying to get into the media/film world.


 


Advantages:



provides physical footage of how the person uses equipment and their work, easy to show their work and can embed it onto different media platforms, makes the person seem more professional and shows their skills through the quality of the show reel.



 


Disadvantages:



time consuming, content can be difficult to create, cannot be accessed without a digital device.
