LO1: Explain the purpose of a media profile (P1)

The purpose of media profiles is used to apply for a job, they summaries one's education and their skills they have. Through a media profile they help sell the person to an employer, they state the unique skills and advantages of having the person on their team. Media profiles help potential employers to know more about the person before hiring them and manage to access information on them to see if they would fit in with the company.

There are a number of elements/ sectors that can be included in a media profile. These include:

Skills: Skills on a media profile are included for it can state to the potential employer the skills the person has; this can help sell the person to the employer and allows the employer to determine if the person is suitable for the job role available and for the company.

Attributes: attributes on a media profile contain skills that the person may contain such as teamwork, independence, organization etc. These skills are used to show the potential employer the skills the person has and how they would work in a team, these qualities are taken into consideration when the employer is considering employing the person to determine if the person is suitable to be employed.

Abilities: abilities are used in a media profile for they are used to competing with other people that may also be trying to get a job. This can also help determine the salary that the employer may give to the person applying for the job. Employers consider the abilities that are contained in the media profile to see if the person has the skills that the employer is looking for and how suitable they will be for the role.

Education: including the education one has it contributes to the suitability that they have for the role they are applying for; the education section of the media profile is considered the most for the employer wants to see what skills and education the person has and if they are qualified enough for the job.

Achievements: achievements are used to contribute to the person's skills they may have outside of their workplace, this can widely help towards the employer's decision for it shows the person to be interesting and aspire outside of the workplace that can push them to do better in the workplace they are applying for.

A media profile is used for people to “sell” themselves to an employer, this is done through their skills, attributes, achievements, education, and abilities. These factors are used to encourage the employer to employ the person applying for the job role, media profiles are there to help attract phew customers for the company.

A CV is normally required from an employee for when someone is applying to a position they want to fill, for different places that people apply too they have to tailor their CV for example people have to change if they have multiple positions on their CV, change the requirements needed for the job and tailor the objective and summary section of the CV.

Digital CVs are used to show the employer that they can work online and use online tools, this is helpful for the world is technology based so being able to use technology is useful for any company.   These types of CVs should be saved as an Adobe PDF file, this is because it eliminates any risks of there being a virus attached to the CV.

A cover letter helps with a CV for it allows the person applying for the job to help improve the chances of being employed because it provides evidence for the employee of why you would be the best candidate for the job.

In conclusion, there is a benefit to having a personal media profile/ CV to hold content about your education and work experience as well as documenting this online through portfolios.

There are two main different types of personal portfolios, for example there are print portfolios and there is digital portfolios. These different types of portfolios are used for different purposes, for example the print portfolios are mainly used for situations that the employer would want to keep the portfolio to analyse it properly. The digital portfolios are mainly used so they help to express and develop soft skills.

The digital portfolios are used to express the idea that the owner can use online tools and can work online if its relevant to the carer thy are applying for. These types if portfolios are easier to use than a physical print portfolio because it can further be shared to further people that may also need to see it and they also mean that they can be viewed around the world and are highly portable. From the portfolio being online it means that they can be accessed at any time as long as they have a computer and possibly the internet. A digital portfolio allows the user to add examples of their online work such as a video they have created, radio show, editing skills or any form of websites they may have made.

Both of these types of portfolios would need to be edited to be suitable for the career they are applying for, for example if the career is aimed towards website making then the portfolio would have to be aimed towards the websites and would have more information based on websites and the skills I have with websites and any other information to do with them. An advantage of having a digital portfolio allows the user to easily edit their portfolio to be more topic based on certain subjects, this allows the employer to see the relevant information to do with the career, this also helps increase the strength of the portfolio allowing there to be more of a chance that the employer would consider the person more and hire them.

A disadvantage of using a digital portfolio is that the employer may have little access to a computer at all times or to the internet, unlike a print portfolio which the employer can further carry with them and need no other materials to access them. A disadvantage from using a print portfolio is that they can be damaged from liquids or due to weather conditions, this means that the portfolio no longer looks professional and further has to be recreated, this is a difficult thing to do for certain people because what is in their portfolio could be an only copy of the work.

In this example of Krystal De Leon's digital portfolio it shows how there is a photograph of her that is appropriate to her, this portfolio has information on about Krystal and where she went for education. This is on her portfolio because it allows the employer to see what skills and where she studied, this can help determine the type of person that she is and how she has has been to further education. The photographs that she has used to express herself show how she is a bubbly and a supportive person that likes to be active and support her favourite teams at sports.

On the other hand, this portfolio does not have much information on the different skills she has acquired and it has no examples of what she does or has done. This needs to be included on a portfolio because it shows the employer examples of work the person has done and it strengthens the portfolio, this means that they can see for themselves if her skills and the style of her work is suitable and appropriate for the company.

An advantage of having a print portfolio allows people that are more art based and print based to express their skills in a format that suits them better. This also means that the employer could possibly further keep the portfolio to further examine it to determine if they are the right person for the job. This is an example of a print portfolio, this shows the different features of work that this person has done and the different techniques they have used to crest their work.

On this portfolio there would need to be examples of bigger pieces of work that the person has created, this would show how the person can have different details and methods in their work. This needs to be shown to a employer because it means that they a further examine the techniques they use and the methods that they use. To an employer this means that they can further see if the techniques used and suitable and if the skills that they have is right for the company and the position,
from having examples of their work it means that the employer can see if the person needs any further training or help in certain sections.

These portfolios have similar strengths but weaknesses, for example the print portfolio has more examples of work that the person has created unlike the digital portfolio. This means that the print portfolio is stronger front his being a factor, however the digital portfolio has information about the person and not just the work they have created, this means that the employer can further see what type f person they are just fro. their portfolio. This is an important thing for the employer to know because it means that they can determine if the person is the right type of person for the company and the team.

An advantage of both the portfolios would be that they both express the type of person and their possible styles of work through the content they have involved, this is due to the type of people that they express themselves to be through their work and the photographs they provide showing themselves. A strength that print portfolios have that digital portfolios struggle to have is swatch pieces of work such as the layering pieces that the person did meaning they add more of an creative effect to the portfolio.
